Lucknow : The historical city of Nawabs

Location:
Lucknow is the capital city of Uttar Pradesh and resides on the north-western shore of the river Gomti . According to Wikipedia, it is the fourteenth-most populous city and the twelfth-most populous urban agglomeration of India. The city of Lucknow is flourished with colour, culture, cuisine and diversity.

History:
Before the East India Company took over the rule of the historical capital of Awadh, the city was ruled by the Delhi Sultanate follow by the Mughals, which was later transferred to the Nawabs of Awadh. According to a legend, the city is named after, Lakshman, the younger brother of Rama from the Hindu epic Ramayana. The best period to visit the city is August to January, where you’ll get to see the real diversity here. The climate during that period isn’t very extreme and many festivals fall during that period where people get together and celebrate.

Tourist attractions:
Lucknow, as a city of hospitality, heritage and culture, has itself been a great tourist attraction. But there are several entities that add to its glory. The alluring architecture of Bada Imamada and Chota Imambada being two of those. If you are one of the Independence movement enthusiasts, you might want to visit the Kakori district here, which was the witness to the famous Kakori Kand organised by HRA. If you’re a person who appreciates the history of a place or love shopping or just in the mood for a tasty meal, you should definitely visit the heart-lines of the city, Hazratganj and Aminabad. They’re worth paying a visit at evening. You will not have to worry about stay and travel across the city. The newly constructed metro, allows access to the many hotspots in the city as well as the airport and railway station. Cabs services along with the local transport are adequate for traversing the city. Speaking of stay, the city provides various hotels and inns that insure a comfortable and luxurious stay. Lucknow Zoo, now known as Nawab Wajid Ali Shah Prani Udyan, named after last Nawab of Awadh, is a place not to be missed. It is one of the oldest Zoo in the country established in 1921 to commemorate the visit of the Prince of Wales to Lucknow. There are also various local attractions you might find entertaining.

Cuisine:
When it comes to cuisine, you would not want to compete with the chefs of Lucknow. The city has a wide range of cuisine and is especially sought out for its kebab and other Nawabi treats. Be it street food or food from the most reputed restaurant in the city, you won’t regret breakfast, lunch or dinner in Lucknow.
